THIEN MU PAGODA – THE MYSTICAL FEATURES OF THE ANCIENT CAPITAL

What is the meaning of Thien Mu Pagoda?
As a legend, the local saw an old lady in red appears on the hill, nowadays, it is Ha Khe hill. The lady portended that: “the Lord will come here to build the pagoda to pray for the prosperous of the country”. After foretolding, the lady disappeared in the cloud. When Lord Nguyen Hoang came here and went along the river. He saw the hill that combined to the river look like a shape of a dragon was looking back to the city. That is extremely the best terrain of success. Moreover, the Lord heard the legend make him believed in the omen of the Fairy. tThe Lord decided to build a pagoda in this hill and named Thien Mu pagoda means the Heaven Fairy Lady. Since now, the local call Thien Mu or Linh Mu also because of this legend.
What can we see in Thien Mu pagoda?
When tourists get to the pagoda, Phuoc Duyen tower is the first thing attracts the tourists’ attention. With seven- storey tower. Built by King Thieu Tri, and became the symbol of Hue city. , Phuoc Duyen can be regarded as the highest tower in Viet Nam in 19th century. As the old local, there is a golden Buddha statue in the highest storey, the silve in the second and the bronze statue in the third- highest storey. But now, noone can ascertain the truth of this, so it still becomes as a fable.
Behind the tower is the 3-door gate called Tribal gate with the entrance to Dai Hung Palace – the monastery of Thien Mu Pagoda. Tourists seem to be into the pure and poetic space of spiritual home. Fragrant incense smoke fills the air there all day long, making the praying for blessings calm and peaceful. Walking through the entrance in the pagoda, tourists will actually feel their own spiritual retreat, and leave behind all of sorrow and anxiety of human.
Moreover, on the left of the monatery is the car which carried the monk Thich Quang Duc in Saigon is also a salient feature from all others, on June 11th 1963, the monk burned himself to death to protest the incumbent president in Saigon who oppressed the Buddhists in that time.
