WHAT TO VISIT IN HUE DMZ BY PRIVATE CAR
1. La Vang Church (55 km from Hue)
La Vang is a holy pilgrimage site for Vietnamese Catholics, located in Hai Lang District, Quang Tri Province. Believers believe in the epiphany in this area . The church was built in 1798 near three banyan trees, where they believed Maria appeared to save them. After an hour drive, the church is an ideal rest stop to relax in Hue Dmz by private car trip.
2. Hien Luong bridge – Ben Hai river (45 km from La Vang)
Hien Luong bridge is the symbol of the painful division of Vietnam from 1954 to 1975. The bridge is in the center of the demilitarized zone taken along Ben Hai river. This place not only witnessed fierce battles by bombs but also by color, sound and flagpole. With Hue DMZ trip, through the war museum, you will understand the pain caused by the war.
3. Vinh Moc Tunnel (15km from Hien Luong bridge)
Vinh Moc tunnel is the highlight for the Hue DMZ trip. It was built over two years, from 1965 to 1967. The tunnels are structured in 3 floors. The top floor is 8-10m deep for soldiers, the second floor is 12-15m deep for living and the third floor is 23m deep for storing weapons. The whole system is 1700m long and has 13 doors (7 doors to the sea and 6 doors to the hill).
4. Ta Con Airbase (80 km from Dong Ha)
Ta Con Airport is about 5 km away from Khe Sanh town, about 20km southwest of Lao Bao border gate and about 65km north-east of Dong Ha city. This base was associated with many accomplishments during the 1968 Khe Sanh liberation campaign and is attributed to the sarcastic quote of US Defense Secretary James R. Schlesinger: “Although we have thrown American honor to keep (Khe Sanh) and force the Joint Chiefs of Staff pledged to blood, but eventually to retreat”
